Dear Candian Alumni and Friends,

Today UCT Canada, in solidarity with our South African counterparts and the rest of the world celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela. Mandela Day serves as a reminder of the principle of Ubuntu and is a call to action for people to intentionally make a positive change within their communities. This may be done through supporting causes close to your heart, through your time or financial resources. As a UCT alumni network, this too is OUR reminder that EVERYONE has something to give!

Not sure where to begin? Consider the following:

1. What challenges did you face as a UCT student, which may STILL be a challenge to current students, that you could help to improve?
2. Within your existing community in Canada, what challenges have you experienced? What lessons have you learned along the way that may be helpful to your fellow alumni?
3. What cause or global challenge are you enthusiastic about finding a resolution towards?
4. What do you have expertise in? How can you use your skillset or knowledge to support current UCT students, recent graduates or the broader UCT Canada alumni network?

UCT Canada collaborates with our alumni network across Canada to support under-resourced communities in Cape Town including current UCT students in financial need. Some of our projects include UCT Schools Improvement Initiative (SII), student financial support programs and UCT’s African Climate Development Initiative (ACDI).
